Preface: An Offering of Feng-shui Knowledge to my Readers

This is a book of “worldly Dharmas.” It is a book of methods used to secure successin the mundane world — it's goals being family harmony, good health, wealth, successful careers, filial obedience from one's children, and the mitigation and eradication of disasters.

In past feng-shui readings, I noticed that many people live in homes shockingly unfavorable to them. My sympathy and compassion for those living in such unlucky houses prompted me to write this detailed geomancy book Household Feng-shui. So that this book can be read and understood by everyone, I have used the clearest possible language to explain the deep and profound study of “earth magic.”

I, Living Buddha Lian Sheng, feel there are three fundamental aspects to any successful “worldly Dharma” or mundane endeavor:

1)    Timing — the karmic opportunity bestowed by the Cosmos or destiny

2)    A favorable geographic position — assistance rendered in the form of a positive environment, or favorable feng-shui

3)    The support of people —man-made factors such as self-effort and harmonious human interaction

“Time, place, and people” are the three constituents behind any successful endeavor in the mundane world. The factor of “time” is usually very difficult to change. The second factor, “people,” generally involves the exertion of great effort on one's part. The final factor, “place,” is the easiest to manipulate. Thus, geomancy (feng-shui) becomes an effective method of bringing about radical change or reversing the course of events in a particular situation.

“Place” also plays a role in the cultivation of “transcendental Dharma,” or spiritual transformation. In the olden days, Taoist practitioners sought famous mountains and caverns, places of exceptionally high energy, to cultivate. Today, practitioners of esoteric Buddhism still seek out caves of high energy to conduct their retreats.
